My nephew gave me his computer to repair. He said
computer was locking up with a Blue screen
"Stop 0X~0A, 0X~028F, 0X~02, 0X~00, 0X~8041153D
Address 8041153D, Base at 80400000, Date Stamp 4047db83 -
ntoskrnl.exe"
With instruction to: "Remove new hardware & software.
Disable BIOS memory options (ie caching & shadowing)
Check HDD - is it properly configured & terminated?"
I ran "chkdsk" on the HDD and it came up with some errors.
which it supposedly fixed. When I rebooted the computer,
it wouldn't start up. A message indicated the
file "ntoskrnl.exe" was corrupt or missing & indicated it
should be reinstalled.
There was a copy of the ntoskrnl.exe file installed where
it should be (C:\winnt\system32\) but when I compared its
size to the same file on my own computer, it was only
about 1/10th the size. I installed (overwrote) the file
with one from the Win2K Pro installation CD. When I try
to boot up now, the computer just stops the booting
process when the message "Verifying DMI pool date" appears.
I installed a copy of Win2k Pro OS onto drive "D",
thinking I should be able to boot to it, then try working
on getting the default OS to work. That didn't help me.
It could be that the "boot.ini" file I made up is not done
correctly.
-----------this is the boot.ini------------
[boot loader]
timeout=20
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft
Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft
Windows 2000 Professional"
-------------------------------------------
Hopefully, one of you can send me a good boot.ini if mine
is messed up.
I made up a boot disk with the "boot.ini", "ntldr"
and "ntdetect.com" files on it. When I use it during the
boot up, I get past the Verifying DMI message, to where I
can select which OS to boot into. When I choose either
OS, I get the same oskrnl.exe is corrupt or missing
message. If I hit "F8" to boot into the Safe Mode, I get
the same thing.
Using the four setup W2k Pro disks, I can start either of
the OS's in DOS mode only, so I'm able to make changes
where needed. Now I'm at a loss as to what I should try
next.
Is it possible to do a parallel install of the OS on "C"
drive that might work without loosing everything stored on
the "C" drive? If so, can someone tell me how it's done?
I really hate to think I've got to format and do a fresh
install of a new OS, plus reinstall all of the programs
that are currently installed there.
If and when anyone replies to this, could you please send
a copy of the response to my email address

Thanks a bunch in advance,
Best regards,
Ddisaksen
