Windows 2000 Pro workstation locks automatically

Pat Steele

Hi,

I'm deploying Windows 2000 Pro at a Government site. We
have the workstations locked down as per the NSA Group
Policy templates. After deploying several workstations,
user have complained that they have to unlock their
workstations after 10-15 minutes of inactivity. I have
looked everywhere for a Group Policy or registry setting
that will allow me to disable the auto locking, or at
least change the lock "Timeout" value. I have disabled all
of the power saving features. Does anyone know of a
registry or Group Policy setting that will cause this
behavior?

Thanks,

Patrick Steele

Probably screensaver is password enabled. Check group policy user
config/admin templates/control panel/display/password protect screen saver.
Otherwise in computer control panel check display properties/screen
saver/enable password. It could even be configured in the registry - don't
know those settings offhand, Google search should find them. --- Steve

Read the docs with the NSA templates you have used.
IIRC they have added a few settings to the Security Options
and they will not show on a machine where you view the
policies unless you have recompiled sceregvl.inf there.
I do recall some discussion of screen saver settings the
last time I reviewed their doc.
