Windows 2000 Pro. sp4 crashes my router.

Dennis

I have a Airlink 101 AR680W 4 port/wireless router. I have 4 XP sp2
hardwired computers and 3 wireless laptops that work with no problem at all.
If I plug in my Windows 2000 Pro. into the router it crashes the router. What
I mean by "crash" is that all four of the lights that indicate traffic flow
on each port blink at a very fast rate, you can still network on the LAN, but
no-one can access the internet, it times out.
This sometimes takes an hour or two to happen, other times it happens in
seconds. If I unplug the Win. 2000 cable, reset the DSL modem and routher
everything works again. I also plugged in a D-Link router and got the same
results.
I've looked at the MS knowledge base and found a few things that might have
been the problem but the fixes didn't work for me.

Any help is appriciated.
Thanks, Dennis A. Halbasch

What fixes did you try?

The problem could be a defective network adapter in the WIndows 2000
Pro computer.

Hello Dennis,

Sounds that your 2000 machine has a broken NIC. Try it out with another NIC.

I've tried just about everything to try on the Router, I doubt thats the
problem as everything else seems to work on it. On the win 2000 machine I've
tried it with various programs runnning and no programs running and it's
allways the same resutl. I was able to run it in safe mode and it didn't
crash for about an hour but then I had to turn it off, so I'm not sure about
wether it would have continued to work or not. I added a registry value from
a microsoft knowledge base "black hole router" fix, it didn't work either.
Last night I uninstalled my eithernet controler and re-installed it but
havn't had a chance to test it yet.
What I'm trying to do with the machine is to run security camera's that can
be viewed from the internet. That is the only thing this machine will be
doing, recording and streaming video and nothing else.
I've searched google and haven't found anything that sounds like this
problem.

Thanks for the Reply's

I tried the connection today after re-installing the eithernet controller
and It lasted about four hours then crashed the router again. I'm at a loss
as to what to try next.

I'd replace the Ethernet controller with a new one.

It won't be untill this weekend till I can get a new nic card. As soon as I
do and get it installed, I'll post the follow-up and let everyone know the
results.

Thanks for the help
