Windows 2000 or Windows XP ?

Hello newsgroup.

Since years i ran on this PC (Athlon XP 2000+, 512 MB Ram, 80 GB HD) Windows
2000. I've got now from a friend a XP pro CD with license (don't worry, it's
competely legal, he didn't installed it on his PC before, in fact, the
package is un-opened).

Should I upgrade my PC to XP? I've read that XP is faster than 2000, is it
true? That is my main concern, if it isn't faster, or even if it is slower, I
won't upgrade.

What is your experience speedwise, XP or 2000?

Win2k is smaller. With today's harddrives that's not very important
and XP gives you more features which is why it takes more space.

On comparative bench marks, PC World magazine reports Win2k is faster,
again, that shouldn't make much differnce with a PC that's reasonably
fast as yours is.

As far as speed is concerned it's vastly overrated I think, I used to
have a 386DX-25 running DOS 5.0 and Windows 3.0, now I have an Athlon64
2400 running Windows XP and I'm still typing this at 30 words/minute!

XP certainly boots up a lot faster than does W2K.
