Windows 2000 installer problems

My laptop will no longer open any documents or download
any new software. I have tried to fix the installer by
reinstalling the Windows 2000 and office, but I keep
getting an error from windows installer. Any suggestions?

- How exactly you're trying to re-install Windows
- How far the process goes
- What exactly the error message is

The last time I had a similar error, I pasted the exact error message into
google and it gove me a link to the MS recommened fix. I don't remember
exactly what it is or where it is, but it had something to do with removing
and reinstalling the Installer Service.
