Hi everyone,
First, I'd like to commend everyone on their altruistic efforts on
this and other such newsgroups. Why anyone would volunteer to help
strangers troubleshoot software problems is beyond me. That said,
here's my problem.
I've just done a clean install of Win2K on my system (specs below),
and before getting too far in installing applications, I noticed the
following-
SYMPTOM:
At the login prompt, the text cursor freezes (stops blinking) for
10-15 seconds while the mouse cursor is still "active" but shows an
hourglass when over the visual field of the prompt.
When I configured the system to use "secure logon settings," it did
the same, but at the CTRL+ALT+DEL prompt (unresponsive).
I recently replaced a bad memory module after suffering from numerous
issues in my previous install (including this one). This may seem like
a petty nuisance, but I'm determined to resolve it, as when I first
had the computer, the issue wasn't present.
HW Config:
AMD AthlonXP 1800
Gigabyte GA-7VRXP
512MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM (Kingston)
Two WD Caviar 40GBs, Pioneer DVD-ROM and Sony CD-RW (each running on
their own channel; the motherboard has 4 total, two for the option of
setting up a software RAID array).
ATI Radeon 9000
My QUESTION:
Can anyone point me in some direction? I'm unsure whether it's a
hardware or software issue. Being a novice, I don't want to simply
dive in.
Thanks so much,
Rory Woods
