Windows 2000 does not recognize appropriate hardware type

Lex Nunnery

I am experiencing difficulties with my monitor's device
driver. First, I recently purchased a new hard drive,
since the old one ceased to function. Therefore, I do not
have any access to any of my old files. I installed
Windows 2000 on my new hard drive, and my monitor
functions, but I am unable to change the "Colors"
or "Screen area" options in Display Properties; Settings.
Furthermore, Display Properties; Settings has the
following monitor listed: "(Default Monitor) on VGA."

I downloaded the appropriate driver for my NEC MultiSync
FE700+ monitor, unzipped it, and attempted to 'install' it
with Windows 2000's Add Hardware Wizard, but it seems as
if Windows does not recognize a comparable hardware type.

This is how I got to the current step:
Start; Settings; Control Panel then
Add/Remove Hardware then
Next; Next; Select "Add a new device"; Next then
"No, I want to select the hardware from a list"; Next

At this step, there is no hardware type of "Monitor" or
anything similar. This is, however, what is listed:
Batteries
Display adapters
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers
Imaging devices
Infrared devices
Memory technology driver
Modems
Multi-port serial adapters
Network adapters
NT Apm/Legacy Support
Other devices
PCMCIA adapters
Ports (Com & LPT)
Printers
SCSI and RAID controllers
Sound, video and game controllers
System devices
Tape drives

I have attempted to 'install' the monitor driver that I
downloaded from www.necmitsubishi.com under "Other
devices" by selecting "Have Disk...," but when I select
the appropriate location of my inf and other files,
Windows gives me the error, "The specified location does
not contain information about your hardware."

Do you have any suggestions as to how I may resolve the
problem?

Thanks,

Grady Nunnery
