Windows 2000 and Access Database

Hi,

We use an application which makes use of MS Access 97 database. Until now
we did not have any problem with that as we were using that application on
win98 but now when we switched over to windows 2000, i get an error message
on running the application with user rights but the same application works
perfectly with administrator rights.

The error msg is "Error Opening Database Error number: 3024 Couldn't find
file 'filename.mdb' ". I checked for the file and it is in its respective
application folder. I can open that file in MS Access but not through the
application. I have installed that application with local administrator
login on windows 2000 professional. I cannot install the application with
the user login as the user will not have enough rights to install.

I even tried installing it in a different folder and checked the folder and
file permissions but of no vain.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

TIA

Is the user able to open and view the .mdb file? Even though the
appplication was installed with an admin account it will run under the
security context of whatever user launched it.

If the user does not have access to the .mdb then neither will the
application.

Yes, the user can open the mdb file and view it. We have Access 2000 and can
open the file. While opening the file it asks for "convert database" or
"open database" since the mdb file was created in Access 97. On selecting
open database, the file opens but through application it doesn't.

As Access suggests, you will have to convert it to the latest version to be
able to open it through the application.
