Windows 2000 Advanced Server does not shut down

Hi all,
Here is a very typical problem that I am facing.
Windows 2000 Advanced Server boots up nicely. However when
trying to shut down Windows, it does not shut down at all.
There is not response from the system after the
shutdown/restart/logoff is clicked from the Windows logon
console.
Please provide me with a solution which will save me from
the botheration of reinstalling windows once more.
