i reloaded windows xp prof on a Gateway laptop.

when i booted, the desktop appeared with icons and the following RUNDLL
message:

"error loading C:\program files\wild tangent\apps\cda\cdaengine0400.dll

the specific module could not be found"

any idea what this means? system seems to run fine but message can't be
deleted.

It's associated with wild tangent. Either you have malware on the
system or it's a residual of malware removal. Go to Start | Run. Type
in msconfig. Click ok. On the startup tab uncheck a reference to this
file loading.

Do a check for malware using a combination of programs. Run these
programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing update them,
then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update and run them
weekly.
