Any suggestion where I do tweak the pc?, Thanks

I think that you will find that it is a function of the hardware to keep the
CPU fan running after Windows has shut down until such time as the CPU is
cool enough..

su su,

In addition to what Mike and Ragman told you, since this has just recently
started happening you need to probably clean your heatsink on the processor
with compressed air. Be cairful not to touch anything other than the case
and clean it out a bit it must have gotten filled with dust. Good luck

Is the power supply fan also running?

If so, sounds like the wierd problem I ran into with Win2k Prof on my home
machine. It had always shut completely down at the end of the Windows
initiated shutdown, until I installed Windows Media Player 9. After that, and
even after removing WMP9, it goes to a blank/black screen, monitor power LED
stays green and power supply/cpu fan continue to run. I have to force the
power off with the 5 second press of the power switch.

If the power supply fan is still working after the shutdown, it could that
instead of shuting down the PC, you somehow placed in on "Standby" mode.

That might be the case for the OP, but it isn't the case for my machine.

Usually, when a machine goes into standby, the VGA output changes such that
the monitor LED goes condition yellow.

This is assumed. The power supply makes the +12 volts, and the 3.3
monitoring voltage. If the power supply wasn't on, the cpu fan could not
run.

After working on computers for 20 years, I don't assume anything. The OP
didn't mention the power supply fan, only the cpu fan, which unlike the the
power supply fan, is controlled by the motherboard. I have seen power
supplies with thermostatically operated fans that actually turn off and on
while in operation, so it would be technically possible to have the cpu fan
run while the power supply fan is off.

Applying a little logic...

If it is true that the cpu fan and only the cpu fan (ok, we'll allow for the
p/s fan as well) is continuing to run after shutdown to cool the cpu, this
would only work if the 3.3vdc to the cpu core is first cut off. Further, the
cpu fan should at some point shut off by itself, if this is what is really
going on.

If this is what is happening, I would wonder why the OP thinks it is a
problem, but I infer from what he says that it is continuing to run without
shutting down by itself, which sounds like the same problem I have with my
Win2k system - power LED remains green on the monitor and all fans continue
to run. In my case, I just shrug it off as a MS bug, since it didn't start
happening until I installed WMP9. I'm pretty sure I could fix it by a clean
reinstall, but it isn't a big enough nuisance to warrant that.

If I'm right about the symptoms, I would guess that the OP's problem is
caused by not having the correct motherboard drivers loaded, after the clean
xp reinstall.
