I have Media Player 10, and when I view my library, I every song listed twice
and sometimes 3 times. I can't figure out for the life of me, why this keep
happening and what to do to avoid it. Could anyone help me out?

Hola, Juan,

Media library TITLE and media FILE do not mean the same thing. Each TITLE
(entry) in the media library database is linked to a specific music or video
FILE on your computer's hard disc(s), i.e, when you add TITLES to the media
player's library, each library TITLE is linked to a FILE residing somewhere
on the computer. Right-click each library TITLE where you have double or
triple entries of the same TITLE, and choose "Properties" in the context
menu. On the 'File' tab of the Properties dialog box you will see an entry
at the bottom of the tab, called, 'Location.' That information is the path
that the media library uses to get to the FILE, so that, when you want to
play a SONG or VIDEO TITLE in the media library, the media player knows
exactly where to go to find the FILE that corresponds to that TITLE. ¡Con
mucho cuidado aquí! If you want to remove the extra instances of a TITLE,
just right-click each undesired TITLE entry, and choose, 'Delete.' A dialog
box will open asking, "Are you sure you want to delete 'Name of the file's
TITLE?' Also, there are two (2) options presented: 'Delete from library
only,' or, 'Delete from library and my computer.' If you choose the latter
option, you will delete the TITLE from the library, but also, and
simultaneously, you will delete the corresponding FILE from the computer.
That may be exactly what you want to do, to eliminate double and triple
copies of the same FILE occupying unnecessary space on your computer. But if
each duplicate or triplicate TITLE refers to totally different FILES, e.g.,
three artists interpreting the same SONG TITLE, or, three (3) SONG FILES with
the same TITLE, but different melodies, then you would probably regret having
deleted the duplicate or triplicate TITLES from your media player library,
and your computer, as well. To remedy your situation, you can delete every
media player library TITLE that is, de hecho, referring to duplicate or
triplicate FILES, using the 'Delete from library only' option, until you are
absolutly sure about which FILES you want to remove completely from the
computer's hard disc(s). ¡De nuevo, ojo aquí, Hombre! Espero que le ayude
todo ésto.

Adios, amigo,

jim

I have the same problem, but is there a way to fix it without scrolling
through & deleting several hundred files from the library?

How can I delete the library file & start a fresh one? "Monitoring Folders"
and "Searching Computer" keeps all old entries - I want to start from
scratch.

Thanks ~

Hello "Disappointed"-
Can you share what your simple way was? I have the same issue and don't
want to go through each listing manually and delete. Did you find a way to
do a mass delete, and then start from scratch in Media Player?

i have windows media plyr 11 and I have doubles in my library.

Me too! Hundreds of them. Yet, I believe it is a bug. If I examine the
properties of double records it looks like this:

1) \\Servername\mp3\Artists\Artistname\Albumname\Trackname
2) \\SERVERNAME\e$\MP3\Artists\Artistname\Albumname\Trackname

Now, I am pretty sure that the 2nd entry should not be there. Somehow an
administrative share has been utilized. Why did that get in, in the first
place. I am NOT monitoring this 2nd directory.

What's going on here Microsoft?
