Win98 to Win2k Upgrade stuck in a loop, Help!

Ray

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade Win98SE system to Win2K. The setup
goes as far as the final phase ("upgrading program and
system settings" to be exact"), stays there for a long
time, and loops back to the beginning of the Win2K setup.
The only I can stop this is by turning the machine off.
When I turn it back on, it's back in the loop again.

Help!

Hi,

After I posted my original post, I came across a post here
with a similar problem. Dave's solution to the guy was to
do a clean install. In my case, I have some important data
that I'd like to recover before I do a clean install on
this hard disk. Any ideas how I could do that? For
example, can I install this hd in another Win2k system to
access the data? I should have backedup the data before
the install, but I was told it was a pretty smooth process.

Thanks for your prompt help,

Ray

Ray,

Hope you don't mind, I'm jumping on this chain with you.
Having the exact same thing happening with my install, only I ended up
having
to wipe out my system (Fdisk, the whole route to re-install 98SE)
to get it back.
I have searched everywhere to find out about problems associated with
the
GUI mode on the last part of install. My system ran all day and never
got anywhere.
Constantly rebooted to these last install processes.
