We are having problems with a Win98 pc accessing a file share on a win2k dc.
The setup worked before and have recently encountered a problem where only
the Win98 pc reports it cant access the domain or domain controller. It
acts like it cant see the DC at all even though other PCs at the location go
without a hitch. This is a single DC network with DNS, WINS, DHCP running
on the DC. From the Win98 box you can successfully ping the DC and can see
the domain inside network neighborhood but when you click the domain to
drill down or use \\servername\share inside explorer you get cannot access
computer.
The DC has both the computer listed as well as the user account listed. I
have tried reinstalling the network card. Changing from "microsoft network"
to "windows login" and just about everything else I could think of. Also
the Win98 machine can see and connect to other computers inside the domain
as well as other computers inside the workgroup.
