Win2k/WinXP Workgroup

D

Dan Dorrough

After spending a huge amount of time and trying dozens of ideas in various
postings, I have still not succeeded in establishing a reliable work group
between my Win2k machines and my WinXP laptop. The Win2k machines have
networked reliably for several years. The WinXP laptop connects to the work
group for a period of time after booting-- anywhere from half an hour to
several hours-- but always loses the connection (both in and out).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Dan,

Is it an issue of the WinXP laptop losing connectivity with the network? Or
losing access to the workgroup?

Does distance between the laptop and the router (this is infrastructure wireless
not ad-hoc, right?) vary?

Any interference problems in your house? Cordless phone, microwave?
Fluorescent lights? Any neighbors with wireless too?

What is "loses the connection (both in and out)"? Inside and outside (the
house)?

Is the AP broadcasting an SSID? Any chance that the laptop picks up another
SSID and tries to associate with it?
