Win2k Server, DSL router w/static ip and home network questions

Hello,

I am currently running a small home network with 1 Win2k Server
computer and 3 XP clients. They access the Internet via a small hub,
which is in turn connected to a Zoom ADSL router. I have a static IP
from my ISP.

I am trying to set up a 2000 Active Directory domain, for study and
testing purposes, however I have hit a brick wall regarding DNS.

I have installed DNS service on the 2k server and made it a domain
controller. However, whenever I create a new zone, I don't get the
various subdirectories - under forward zones I only have
name.mydomain.com - no additional subdirectories. I have tried
following the instructions listed in a MS KB article (stop/start
netlogon, ipconfig /registerdns, etc.), but to no avail.

Also - because my internal network is on the 192.168.0.x range, I have
been running into some other problems - if I use nslookup I get an
error saying that a private range should not be used on a publicips.

I have enabled forwarding and as such my clients can reach the
internet with no problem.

How should I configure the DNS server in regards to my static, public
IP address and my range of internal, private ip addresses?

Thanks!

Not true, not true.

He does not need 2 NIC's in the server. He has a DSL router, so lets assume
that its doing NAT the way it should be done.

If he isnt getting all the subdirs in his forward lookup zone, its possible
that his zone is not configured as an ActiveDirectory Integrated Zone, with
DynamicUpdates enabled.

The OP should check that first, before he goes an buys hardware and installs
it.
