Win2k not rebooting automatically.

Recently, my Win2k Pro (SP 4) has stopped shutting down and rebooting.
After I tell to shut down or reboot, it saves the settings, unloads and
I am left staring at a black screen with a blinking cursor. If I reboot
manually after that (by hitting the reset butto, it loads without
complaining or starting the disc scanning process.

At first, I thought that my recently bought new power supply was a
culprit. However, a test install of the same OS in a different
partition on the same box showed that the power supply works just fine,
since the newly installed win2k rebooted as it is supposed to.

Since (1) it is not the power supply and (2) Windows does recognize my
box as ACPI-compliant (I have checked this), the problem most likely
lies with some software interfering with the boot process. I tried
uninstalling all the software I had insalled in the last few months,
and all the drivers for removed devices I could spot. The problem
persists.

I would surely love to get some input from people who know how to solve
this.
