Win2K machine will not boot up without install CD in the drive

I just installed Win2K Pro. Before the install, I fdisked the drive,
then formatted it and did sys. The install went perfectly.

However, now when I restart the machine, without the CD in the drive,
it gets past POST but hangs at a black screen with a cursor and never
actually gets to the login screen.

With the CD in the drive, it boots up fine...even though it's not even
booting from the CD.

I've checked the BIOS settings and even updated the BIOS and still it
doesn't work.

Can anyone offer me suggestions of what to try now?

Thanks!

Colleen

Never mind. I figured it out. It was the Master Boot Record. I ran
the command 'fixmbr' in the Recovery Console and now it works fine.
