Win2k logon / profile problem

Hi,

I am having a problem logging onto Win2k as a normal
user. This error
message appears:

"Windows cannot copy the file C:\Documents and
Settings\Default User\Local
Settings\History\History.IE5 to location C:\Documents and
Settings\NINEuser.class2000\Local
Settings\History\History.IE5. Access
Denied"

Then a second window appears:

"Windows cannot log you on because the profile cannot be
loaded."

I am able to logon OK as administrator. I would imagine
that win2k is trying to
copy a history from the Default User profile to the
NINEuser profile when a
user was trying to logon with that profile? Is that the
case?

I tried adding a new user profile (standard
user) when I was logged in as Administrator. When I
logged out and tried to
log back in as the newly created user. I still
encountered the "Cannot load
profile : Access Denied" message.

Anyone any ideas? Does Win2k try and pick everything up
from the Default
User profile? If so, might this problem therefore be a
result of a problem
with the Default User profile? How could this be fixed?

James, It seems to me that you have NTFS permissions problem, on either the
origin (where the new user could not read) or the target folder (where the
new user could not write). Review the permission on the "Document and
Settings" folder.

Marcelo, thanks for the advice. I checked the permissions
for all the user profiles in "Documents and Settings" and
indeed several of the folders seemed to have lost all the
correct settings. So I added the correct user groups and
the permissions (which I copied from an identical
laptop). Unfortunately when I then tried to login as the
NINEuser (power user) I still encountered the "Access
Denied" message when w2k tries to load the profile. That
would seem to suggest that there is still a permissions
problem somewhere, as I am able to login as an
administrator. I again setup a new Power User, logged out
and logged in as the new user and again it
displays "Access Denied". Therefore there would seem to
be problems with standard user profiles logging in
generally.

Any further ideas?

James
