Win XP Updates

Running Win XP Pro. Each time I shut down, I get the message about getting
updates. I can choose cancel and not get the updates, but I choose the auto
shut down. I see the "updates are being installed 1 of 1 (for example).
But once
back on the computer, when I shut down, I continue to see the updates option
each time.

I went into Program Files and chose the Windows update, and downloaded the
update recommended.

Thanks

After your computer tries to do the updates, does it give a error that it
could not install the updates? This would probably be easier to see when
doing the manual Windows Updates rather than when shutting down.

Which update is not working for you?

I do not get any error messages about the inability to do the
updates.

When I did the update via Program Files, etc., all went well and I
received a message that the updates were downloaded and installed properly.

Thanks for your continued help. This is not a major problem but just a minor
annoyance.

John:

Things are back to normal, somehow. To better explain my problem, I I
turned off the computer, and noted all of the sequences....Start, Turn Off
Computer..this brought up the Turn Off Computer screen with the three icons -
Standby, Turn Off, and Restart. Message: Click Turn Off to Install Program
Updates...I clicked on Turn Off, and when I did, I saw Installing Update 1 0f
1 (not identified) - then message Do not turn off your computer; it turn off
automatically. Then, another message: installing update 1 of 1 (same as
before)
Message: Do not turn off or unplug your computer; it will turn off
automatically-this too is a repeat of previous. then, Installing update 1 of
1. Then, the repeat message Do not turn off or unplug your computer ----.

Then(finally) I got the message that Windows is shutting down.

I restarted, and then did a shut down and now, no stuff about installing any
updates.

It seems that it took a couple of times to install the Update 1 of 1, which
I again say, I could not identify) but once it was installed, all is well.

Thanks for your help, John.

For now things are ok
