win xp setup disk

I just made the biggest mistake of my life. I already have the win xp home
edtion on my notebook, but i wanted to check the setup disk that came with to
see what options does it have, so i changed my boot to cd rom, i rebooted my
pc and once setup has loaded i pressed on the "to set up win xp now, press
enter", then setup found that win xp is already found and 2 options came to
me, unfortunately i pressed on the "repair" option, which took me to another
screen where i pressed on something like upgrading. Then i realized what
mistake i have done, i stopped the process that was taking place. Then i
rebooted the pc but the OS isnt loading anymore, instead the setup wizard is
loading asking me to insert the win xp setup disk. And if i enter again the
setup on the cd to where i was before pressing the repair option, they give
the option to try to upgrade again, because they tried to upgraded before.
Bottom line: I havent backed up my data!!, but i checked using the recovery
console that the data is still on drive c:, but i dont know what to do next,
is it safe to continue the upgrade process without losing the data?, or if
not , how can i have it?

If you used the repair option, and the upgrade option it should not adversly
affect your files or setting. As you started it needs to finnish. upgraging
does not normally delete files other than system which it replaces. Carry on
with the upgrade. After all, what other choice do you have other than trying
to download it all to another medium which may prove difficult. You could
get hold of Drive Image 7, which comes on a bootable cd, make a back up
image, then if anything is missing you could the image browser to bring it
back again.
But I dont think you need to do all that.
Good Luck
