Win xp network path not found issues

I've been dealing with this issue for a while and I'm
about to destroy to XP machines. I finally got print
sharing to work on my laptop and tower. But I can only
access the tower. Whenever I try to connect to the
laptop from the tower it says that "(the computer) is not
accessible. You might not have permission to use the
network resource. Contact the Network administrator of
this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found" But I can see each
machine from either computer. I've enabled netbios over
tcp/ip, created open ports on my router for file and
print sharing on the LAN side (TCP 139, 445; UDP 137,138
and 445) and disabled the firewalls on both computers.
What else is missing to finish my puzzle? If anyone can
help it would be appreciated.
Thanks - Wrigley

Run "ipconfig /all" on XP and look at the "Node Type" at
the
beginning of the output. If it says "Peer-to-Peer" (which
should
actually be "Point-to-Point") that's the problem. It
means that the
computer only uses a WINS server, which isn't available on
a peer-to-peer network for NetBIOS name resolution.

If that's the case, run the registry editor, open this key:

HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters

and delete these values if they're present:

NodeType
DhcpNodeType

Reboot, then try network access again.

Okay- Laptop had P2P on it. Delted NodeType
(DHCPNodeType wasn't present on the list) But I have one
last problem. When I click My network places and click
view workgroup computers I only see my tower. I can
reach the laptop if I search for computers. But it still
won't show in my work group. Any suggestions? (I added
the shared files to my network places as a work around
for now).
Thanks for the help, I'm one step closer to finishing
this project!

I found DhcpNodeType in the registry. Once I deleted it and restarted I am
back to normal.

Thank You for your help.
