Win XP HELL SP2/Repair Problems

Rob

I'm using Win XP SP1.
I try to install SP2, it fails with a drvmain.sdb is open.
SP2 uninstalls itself & triggers 6 windows updates.
I forget that the updates are running & I proceed to download SP2
locally.
When the download is finished I run config & select safeboot & restart
the pc.

WHAM.

Blue screen --> winsrv.dll is missing <auto-reboot loop>

I boot with Win XP CD & select to repair the install.
I forget that the repair process requires the drivers to be
re-installed so I stop the repair on the setup wizard with 39 min
remaining (just started the process) to make sure my programs would be
ok.

Now sure that my programs would be ok I booted the PC up. After the
windows startup logo my PC now displays a black/blank screen with a
mouse pointer that works.

I tried to run the XP repair again but now it fails with [a message
similar to] unable to modify configuration files contact your system
admin.

I will try to find my winternals boot cd but if I can't what should I
do.
Is there anything I can do to get repair to run again.
I tried a bunch of things now when I boot via the xp cd I don't get the
repair option just clean install, probably from me trying to delete
files to get repair to run again.

I would re-install windows but I don't want to lose my programs or any
data.
Hey I don't have my Macromedia Studio CD anymore.
I'm now in the process of installing a new install of winxp in another
folder.
Once I get it running is there anything else I can do to save my
program.

Thanks

Any suggestions..?

I'm in the process of building a new pc, so I would have had to offload
the data & programs anyway but I would have like to have my old win
install working for the next 3 weeks until its ready.
