win XP: CD rom no longer recognizes data on burnt CDs

hi
my windows XP laptop (toshiba) plays DVDs, burns CDs fine, reads
factory produced CDs fine but no longer recognizes home-burnt CDs,
even though these are readable on all other computers. I even burn a
CD fine, but then try to read it and no files appear... size says 0 bytes,
also... no error but just has no data.
any clues what this might be due to?
i've tried the imapi thing recommended in some places, the DMA/POI
switch recommended elsewhere, updated ASPI (apologies if i've got the
acronyms wrong, but i haven't got it right in front of me at the moment)

please any thoughts on this.... i'm at my wits end.

I'm not sure if this applies to your situation. A friend had a somewhat
similar problem. It turned out that she had been using RealOne player
listening to some audio files (somehow converted her CD extraction method to
analog).

Here's the fix to her problem.

1. Open RealOne player.
2. click Tools - Preferences
3. expand the CD folder on the left pane
4. click "Advanced CD"
5. at the right pane, at the top area called Extraction Method, click
"Digital" (instead of "Analog")
6. click OK

I have exactly the same problem (burned files are not seen
by the computer that burned them, but can be seen by other
computers) If anyone has the answer, please pass it along.
