Can the Win XP backup routine backup to CDs or DVDs? I
have a CD writer and a DVD/CD writer but I can't make the
backup work with them. HP help service told me that the
Win XP backup routine can't back up to CDs or DVDs, only

Thank you, Rocky and Carey, for your replies and the link
to the exact information. I had searched microsoft.com
on backup and read dozens of articles, but had missed
this one. I've been using NTI BackupNow! on Win 2000 and
I guess I'll stick with that for now. It was just
surprising to me that Win XP would have a backup routine
that would ignore CDs and DVDs, but obviously, that's the
case.

Nothing wrong with NTI's product. I actually like having a backup on disk as
well as on CD or DVD. If need be, it's more convenient to restore from disk,
and if your computer goes ka-blooee you've still got your backup on CD or
DVD. Layers of protection, you know.
