Win XP back to Win 98

I recently changed from Win98se to XP, but my computer is now to slow. How
do I change back to Win 98se, bearing in mind that the file system is now
NFTS and I need to change this back to FAT 32?

1. Back up ALL your data in a format that you will be able to re-install on
W98. (i.e do NOT use the XP backup utility). Do not forget your favorites
and Internet settings, because once you do step 3 the disk will have NO data
on it.
2. Obtain a W98 start-up floppy and boot from it.
3. use fdisk to remove the non-DOS partition(s) and re-create and format DOS
partition(s)
4. Insert the W98 CD and go from there.

Shame to change back to 98. Win2000 has all the benefits of XP
without the overhead. Vast improvement over 98, IMHO.

Good luck.

Yes, WinXP is a good os, but as the OP said, if his computer is too old
slow to run XP, then Win98 is a good choice. The answer to the OP is:
format the hard drive, reinstall Win98 clean. Install programs from
cd's, restore data from backups.

You have to back up data, clear everything off and start over.

Boot the 98 startup floppy (minimal boot)

Use FDISK (Say Y to 'Large disk support?')
to delete the non-DOS partition (NTFS) and then create a new DOS Primary
one

Reboot, with CD support, note the letter (probably E:) assigned

FORMAT C:
E:
(or as appropriate to get to the 98 CD)
