I have the same problem on my XP Pro System. Have you found a solution for this problem?

See if this applies in your case: Workaround:

Change the Require that this column contains information option from Yes to
No to work around this problem. To do this, follow these steps:

Open the list page that is on the server that is running Windows SharePoint
Services. Click Modify settings and columns.

In the Column area of the page, click to edit the column that you want to
change. Click No under Require that this column contains information.
Click OK. Click Go Back to "List_name".

Enter data in the new required column You can also work around this problem
by entering
data in the new required column for each entry in the list before you accept
or reject the entries.

You receive the "can't move focus to the control" error message when you
approve or reject existing list items

Thank you for the help. I am not familiar with the upper workings of windows and have little knowledge of sharepoint. Before I tackle this further I have a few other symptoms. Can you see if these still suggest your solution

Symptoms

1)) The failing user at one time WAS able to logon to the site that fails now - like hotmail
2) On the same computer the admin can logon to the site but the user (power usr) cannot
3) This seems to only have to do with logging on to a site, sometimes the logon screen appears but after entering information and hitting return the screen does nothing but does display DONE at the bottom of the window
4) Different sites act differently - I guess due to the sequence of events
