Win 98 Win 2000 networking prob

Win 2K does not use netbios. So make sure the IP
addresses are set correctly, verify that you can ping from
the Win2K to the Win98, verify that they are both in the
workgroup. If this is fine, then remove the TCP IP, and
other network services from the Win98 PC, and then re-
install them.

good luck

Win 2k uses netbios, but the difference is that if you
have a pure 2000 domain you can get out of it and work
with smb directly over tcp/ip.

You can see this in the wins tab of tcp/ip where ya can
enable or disable this.

Netbeui is a protocol with transport included but is not
routable.

I recommend put the machines in same workgroup , put
permissions on share (begin with full control) and try.
You can use tcp/ip without netbeui (netbios is enabled by
default).

greetx.

hey joe

I will reinstall the entire WIn98 TCP/IP etc and try that.
Its the only thing i havent done. Its a pity though as the
old network with win98 worked gr8, i didnt expect so much
problems with win 2000.

Both machines are in same workgroup with right users etc
and ping works from each...its strange because as i posted
earlier the win98 can copy files across to win2000 and see
anything i share from it but it doesnt work the other way
around, win2000 sees nothing, this becomes an increasing
problem seeing as all periphals are on the WIn98 machine!

Thanks for your help.
