win 98 computer to xp computer

I have two computers connected through a cayman dsl router.
One computer runs 98se and the other runs Xphome.
Recently I had to reload XP, but this problem has been
intermittant for a year now.
When I first set it up (1st boot) I had full access to
both computers from both computers. When I rebooted, I
could have full access from XPhome to 98se, but when I try
to access the XPhome from the 98se, I get the message:"you
are not authorized to access this resource."
I have tried everything I know to try. Could it be the
drivers on the networking cards, or something I need to do
to adjust one of the computers.
I just want to regain the occasional access to the Xphome
computer from the win98 computer.
Can anyone help? RSG

XP Home uses the Guest account for authentication. Is Guest enabled?

Do any of the computers have a software firewall (ICF / WF or third party)? If
so, you need to configure them for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445
and UDP 137, 138, 445, and / or by identifying the other computers as present in
the Local (Trusted) zone. Firewall configurations are a very common cause of
(network) browser, and file sharing, problems.

Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
