Win 2K Ad & Terminal Server

Cliff

I have a Win 2K box as my domain controller anbd running AD. I want to
bring a seperate TS box (Win 2K) online and make it part of the domain so I
can use the AD on the PDC to control users, etc. I'm having trouble
understanding how to bring up the TS box and add it to the domain and make
all this happen.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Cliff

You build the 2nd server, join it to the domain (just like a PC) and install
Terminal Services from Add/ Remove and Windows Components. You install the
Terminal Server in Application mode.

Next, you install Terminal Services Licensing on the DC - so this through
Add/ Remove as well.

You then activate the licensing server and your done...

Sounds easy. The existing domain is there and the TS box is there too. Can
I do this now that the TS box is tweaked, etc?

Don't know what you mean by tweaked ;-) But I see no reason not to do this.

Just remember you only have a limited time before you *must* activate the
licensing server.

I would do this straight away...

The DC that's already there, the one I want to join, already has an
activated Licensing server on it. How's that impact what I want to do?

Ahh...it's been a while...

I don't think that affects anything...the TS server looks for licensing
servers when it loads so that it knows where to go to get licenses when user
connect.

I don't think you have to stipulate a specific licensing server.

Cliff,

I will jump in for a second.

By 'tweaked' I hope that you mean that you are using Group Policy in
Loopback Mode ( Replace ) and that you followed the following MSKB Article
to do this:

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=278295

Additionally, I hope that you bolted down some file permissions ( C:\ and
C:\Program Files ). I hope that you then installed any software ( either
directly or via GPO ).

I find that you can lock it down pretty well with this.

HTH,

Cary
