will upgrade clean stuck key?

Hi All,

I have a customer with Windows 2000 Professional, sp4.
I can not use ERUNT to backup her registry, as ERUNT
reports something wrong with the "Software" hive. (I
presume this to be a corrupted key.)

Question: if I upgrade her to XP-pro, sp2, will
the upgrade clear the bad key and restore the hive
to normal working order?

Nope, upgrades usually bring along the problem! Only a format and clean
install will bring no issues.
