Will there be a new version?

I dont know if this has been asked on here before, but will there be an upgrade for Windows Media Player 9 Series on Windows 2000?

I am currently using the Windows Media Player 10 Beta on Windows XP and it is a nice fresh program. It would great to think that it would be available on 2k. The Beta installer requires XP on paper, and also refuses to install on anything except 32-bit XP.

Could this be the end of developement on Windows Media for 2000? Reminds me of how Windows 95/NT supports upto DirectX 8.0 and later releases are only available on 98 upwards.

The difference is that 2000 is not as antiquated as 95/NT were then. I am quite happy that support for 95/NT was ended, NT in particular was horribly old fashioned. I feel different towards trusty 2000 because I use in both client and server versions. I am horrified to think that i will not be able to install WMP10, especially since the changes are so noticable.

supposedly, WM9 is the last version with support for 2000. Microsoft wants
people to start merging over to XP/longhorn. XP has been out for almost
three years now, and they are beginning to shift the majority of their
support and new applications to it.
