will not launch shortcut in new window

Along with the recent crashes with IE 6 I also have the
problem that it will not reuse the same window when
launching a new shortcut. I do have that box checked in
the options. My crashes involve faults in mshtml.dll and
mshtmled.dll modules. Don't know if there is a
connection between these two problems. Seeems like I had
the won't reuse first but I'm not sure. I have run the
latest Ad-aware and Spybot. I use XP Pro OS. When I get
a recovery from a fatal error at startup and try to
report it I get a "Can't find
http://oca.microsoft.com/blah, blah,blah error. Don't
know what that means either. I run McAfee and Zone
Alarm , both of which are up to date.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

A third party program could be causing both of these problems.
General troubleshooting tips:
Disable any other program which could be interacting with IE. Eg. antivirus,
google toolbar, yahoo companion, ad blockers, anything running in the
background. You may have to reinstall a program.

Take a look at all programs loading at startup.
