Will M$ end activation support too?

Hi All,

Does anyone know if M$ will discontinue activation support
for XP when they discontinue update support? (It would be
a real pain in the ass to reinstall a system and not have
it activate.)

By searching online and using likely candidates for keywords, like
'Windows XP activation after extended support" (which you could do,
too), I found:

There are some things that change not by actuality just by Microsoft policy.

For example. Look at the Microsoft LifeCycle page. You'll see that as of Oct 30th
Microsoft stopped selling Windows 7. I have a situatiion where I am implementing a Domain
and Active Directory and require Windows 7 Professional. One notebook is a HP Pavillion
DV7. So I called HP to get a quote to upgrade Win7 Home Premium to Win7 Professional.
They said contact Microsoft. I contact Microsoft and I told them my situation. They said
they would reply in 24 hrs. The next day I got an email...

"Hello David,

Thank you for calling Microsoft Presales and Licensing.

This email is a follow up to our conversation regarding transferring of upgrading a
Windows 7 Home Premium license to Windows 7 Professional for active directory features.

Our Anytime Upgrade offer is no longer available for Windows 7. If this is for a nonprofit
or charity organization you can contact Techsoup, one of our largest Charity Resellers.

You can submit a charity donation with Techsoup by going to the following URL:

The next day I did an experiment wil a Dell. I installed Win7/64 Home Premium on a Dell
Latitude. I then used Anytime Upgrade and I upgraded it from Win7/64 Home Premium to
Win7/64 Professional.

That tells me Microsoft's Policy and Dogma will be "Anytime Upgrade offer is no longer
available for Windows 7" but in actuality the "system" still works. Thus I am thinking
activition will continue as well.
