Will FP 2002 book help me with FP 2003?

My library has two FrontPage books, but both are for 2002 and I have 2003
installed. I'm experiencing a big problem and am hoping to get some help
from a book, but want to know if there are major differences between 2002 and
2003 that would make reading the book useless.

Thank you.

There are enough differences that you should have the correct book for the
version you're using. Try "Special Edition Using Office Microsoft FrontPage
2003"

Thanks for the recommendation, David.

Joy, you should definitely get a 2003 book. FrontPage 2000 and 2002
were extremely similar in features. FrontPage 2003 added quite a lot
of new features that won't be explained in a 2002 book.

Thank you both for your quick responses. I was afraid this wouldn't work for
me! The person who set me up with this gave me "Faster Smarter Guide to FP
2003", but it looks like this is a supplement to the book! I really want
something with a big "troubleshooting" section......

I'll take your recommendations with me to the bookstore. Hopefully I will
find something that will tell me in plain language how to get this to work!

Thanks again.

Joy,

Not sure what you're troubleshooting specifically, but there is a
great FP troubleshooting book that I believe Jim Buyens wrote called
Troubleshooting FrontPage 2002 or something like that. The information
in there definitely pertains to 2003 as well. You might want to check
it out and see if it fits your needs.

Someone else has posted pretty much the same problem yesterday, so I'm
following/joining in on that thread as well.

Here's what I posted on 10/30/06:

I am trying to use FrontPage to work on an existing web page. The person who
started the page loaded FP 2003 onto my computer yesterday. (a new one,
nothing illegal here!) I click on Remote Address Properties and fill in the
correct info, then enter the Username and Password. I then get an error
message telling me it is unable to open that site. Possible causes may be
The FTP Server is down or Proxy Server may be incorrect or An error may have
occurred in the FTP Server.

The person who was helping me went home and had no problem accessing it from
his home computer. So it appears I am the problem.....

I turned off my firewall long enough to try getting into this, but had the
same outcome.

I am able to open the site through the http://www.bayviewpta.org

I'm a bit of a bimbo when it comes to the workings of the computer, but if
anyone can give me any advice I would appreciate it. I have Windows XP SP2.
Let me know what other information I would need to give for someone to be
able to help me.

Thank you!

Thanks Jim. I may take a look at the two books at the library (the one you
mentioned is not one of them) and see what their troubleshooting sections
look like.

Also note that my book, Special Edition Using Microsoft Office
FrontPage 2003, has a complete troubleshooting xref guide. All
troubleshooting notes in the book are referenced in a single table.

Thanks Jim. I'll have to see if the local bookstore has it.

I appreciate all the wonderful help and suggestions!

Sorry, I'm not familiar with those so I don't know if they'll be much help.
You'll have to scan through them and see.

I did that. It opened in FrontPage without asking for a user name and
password. However, it still won't let me open "Remote Web Site". grrrrrrrr

Thanks for the suggestion!

Of course, a book isn't going to have tips for every incident you have
trouble with. (an author couldn't possibly predict everything that might go
wrong, or even cover everything that could). That's why groups like this MS
newsgroup exist.

It compliments any book nicely, with expert and user alike helping each
other. So, yes, get a FP2003 book, and ask questions here.

Thanks for your response. Part of my hope in reading a FP book is to figure
out enough of the terminology in order to ask a semi-intelligent sounding
question. Wish me luck!

I realize there's a good chance that my particular problem won't be listed
in any book (although I can dream....), but I must admit to feeling a bit
hopeful when I read a posting here from someone else with my same problem!
Too bad none of it has worked for me yet.
