Will adding a new "user" solve my problem?

I was unsuccessful in getting my new laptop to give me expanded memory so I
could run an old dos game. I tried "dosbox" and that runs, but very very
slowly. When I try to crank up the speed, it just hangs.
But, if I close all the programs I am not using such as virus checking and
firewalls, and such, dosbox will run successfully at higher speeds.
Can I set up a new user and have all the auxillary programs turned off for
that user? It spent a while on it, but was afraid I would end up ruining
something.
Or is there another way to get a cleaner system when I need it?
Thanks.

I would recommend buying more ram. some programs give you the option to
install for only the current user, or all users, and xp also has a
program access program you could use. but if your going to have your
antivirus and firewall disabled some of the time then why bother having
it at all? you would be beter to uninstall completely.

I suggest getting better AV/firewall software. If disabling these
products significantly affects your system speed then something is very
very wrong.

heh. Your probably using Norton tho, if so then everything is operating
as per usual. ;) (ie slow).
