Will a 9800 pro be worth it in my system

First my system

Athlon XP 2400+ 2GHz
Elite K7S5A Mobo ( AGP 4x )
512Mb PC2100 DDR
SB Audigy 2 ZS
Plexwriter 52x32x52 CDRW
Lite On 8x DVD writer

At the moment im borrowing a geforce fx 5900 card from a friend with a
view to buying it from him. But im looking at getting a 9800 pro
instead. With the fx 5900 card im getting just over 10,000 3d marks in
3dmark01se and just over 5000 on 3dmark03. Will i get better
performance from a 9800 pro or is my system going to prove to be the
limiting factor.

3mark01 card seems a bit on the low side, but this benchmark is more depend
on the FSB of the machine rather the the capabilities of the GFX card,
though of course, these play an important part.
To put this into some sort of context I have a Sapphire 9800, overclocked to
a pro. Get 18,000 in 3dmark01 and 6200 in 3dmark03. This is on an A7N8X,
XP2500 running at 215FSB (2.37Mhz).

9800 pro is the card to get, i would have got one, but i went a 9600
Pro HUGE difference from the GF3 Ti 200 i upgraded from.

Might get a 9800 Pro when the prices come down a few hundred dollars
more, i can overclock a good card to XT speeds.

here's a tip...get away from benchmarks!!!! They are all tainted in one way or another. Playing DEMOS and benchmarks will
never give you real life performance, if gaming is your thing. Play the game. if it looks and plays the way you want who cares about
200 points one way or another. Now if your having problems and want to track down the source, then seeing where your FPS's are at,
then benchmarks are a good tool.

Lol JAD,

do I detect this *We Live For The One We Die For The One* chap is getting to
you? :p hehe I had the same reaction as you after keep coming across his
posts. To be fair he is learning allot since he first started but somehow I
find his posts everywhere now, he lives in 100 newsgroups, asking the same
questions again and again (and again). . .

hehe

About the same... how much is he offering? If $150~175 for a used
fx5900 (NON xt) then I'd keep it.

I have the same setup (512mb) with XP2500 - but nothing is overclocked
(and my 2500 is unlocked).

3DMark01 - 16.500 or so.
3DMark03 - 5600 or so.

nah he's alright, well no actually, The boy ain't right, but then who is? He does come up with some whoppers on occasion, and is
obsessed with the number 9800. Which most likely is the stardate in which he was injured by a accidental discharge while cleaning
his pike.

He wants me to give him £175.00 for it. But for only £220 ish i can
get a 9800 pro from overclockers.co.uk

Keep in mind that you have to use approved drivers with 3dmark to get
a legitimate score.
