Wild Tangent

I have Anti Spyware open and watching at all times. A
problem called Wild Tangent has made it past the program
twice.
This nasty little bugger puts an entry into the
Registry. When you remove it with Spybot, you wind up
with a message that an .exe file cannot be found until
you go into the registry and remove the Wild Tangent
entries.

Why is it that MSAS is not stopping this. If it cannot,
then why has there been no detection of it in MSAS but
there is in Spybot?

Send a suspected Spyware Report from the Tools Menu. Restart in safe mode,
open MSAS, on the scan page choose scan options > full system scan (check
the boxes below) > click "Run Scan Now".

Restart in Safe Mode instructions:
www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx

Give this a try just in case:
Save it to C:\hjt (new folder) then Run it and select
Scan and Save Log. Note where you saved the log then
send it to me as an attachment. Put Hijack in the subject
so I'll know it's not spam.

Install Hijackthis and remove the following line:

HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program
Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain

I've run across two brand new HP's now that came with Wild Tangent
installed!

Wild Tangent is like some other apps--perhaps backweb, but I'm not sure it
is parallel--in that it is moving into the legal mainstream. It is there on
those HP machines for a legit purpose--I can't remember exactly what it is
doing, but it is put in intentionally.

It is also included in Earthlink isp software.

Wild Tangent is a very common game engine for online games and is ALWAYS
installed by AOL / AIM.

So its basically neutral.

"Wild Tangent is a video game software company specializing in online games.
It has even made a partnership with AOL to include itself as part of the AOL
Instant Messenger for their AIM games section. The WildTangent Web Driver is
their technology that allows you to play 3D games over the Internet.
Although its not technically considered spyware it does have built in
components to update itself and gather information about the computer system
including "

a.. Operating System Version
b.. CPU Type and Speed
c.. Memory Amount
d.. Video Card type and Driver Version
e.. Sound Card type and Driver Version
f.. DirectX Version
g.. Location that the Web Driver was installed from

Do you have AOL and its AIM instant messaging by any
chance? Its also very prevalent with HP computers and all
there gaming programs crap they install. Checkout your
add/remove programs, see if theres a WildTangent Channel
Manager and uninstall it, and try getting rid of all
those rediculous games, you don't use that the factory
installs. AOL just recently got in bed with WildTangent
if you can believe that. It obviously reinstalls with
rebooting. Check out typing in WildTangent in your Google
search for forums regarding WildTangent..you should find
something in the forums...
