I assembled two computers for friends recently, both with the new Dell 2405
widescreen monitor. One uses an Nvidia FX5200, the other an FX5500, both
with DVI output--but when connected will not show any widescreen resolution
options in DVI. I want 16:9 or 16:10 options, either at approx. 1280 or
1600 on the horizontal.
I've installed the Dell monitor driver and the latest Nvidia driver, but
nothing works. I do, however, get full widescreen options in VGA mode,
which isn't an option since DVI provides a much better picture. These two
computers are used as photo-editing workstations and will not be running
games or other 3D apps. Since widescreen options aren't available in DVI,
I'm currently using 1600x1200, which stretches the screen to fit the 16:9
format. This is not acceptable for photo editing.
Does anyone know how to get these two cards to produce widescreen resolution
options in DVI mode? If not, can anyone recommend a good 2D card that will
do the trick at a reasonable price (<$150, preferably)? I tried the Nvidia
newsgroup about a month ago but found no solutions for making these cards
work.
