Why Windows Explorer on?

P

Pflueger

Is it normal for the Windows Explorer process to be going even though I am
using Internet Explorer with no Windows Explorer windows open? I just
noticed that happening when I opened task manager to look at processes and I
am mostly just curious..

Thanks, pflu

under the process tab
you can "kill" explorer.exe
by right clicking on it.

then if you want to launch
it again, go to the applications
tab, click new task and enter
explorer.exe

Explorer will always be running, as it serves as the GUI shell that
provides the desktop and everything else that you see.

explorer.exe is the underlying tool that runs most of Windows,
e.g., open and save dialog boxes, navigating your HDD, etc. If you
kill it in Task Manager, the Task Bar will disappear and you'll
have trouble running after that. In fact, a large percentage of the
tasks shown in TM are background tasks necessary to support the
system as you've defined it. If you don't know exactly what they
do, I suggest that you don't stop them or alter startup in
msconfig.

when were you going to tell the OP that killing explorer.exe
disables a great deal of Windows?

Maybe you should try some of your own advice???? (But I realize that's a
bit of a stretch for you).

You really should try your own advice there.

Now, now. He doesn't know that yet. Be nice, now.

no need to explain
or write a technical
white paper about
the obvious.

explained the steps
to restore the process.

Ignore any posts made by the Stalker Leythos, he's still in love with me.
He started stalking me after I spurned his advances towards me.
He said he would stop Stalking me If I stopped mentioning his name.
As you can see that does not work. He is a sick obsessive STALKER.

Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting
directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to
pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST
Block list, and who provides a tool for your use that will block access
to reputable anti-malware sites without telling you he's doing it?

Do you really want to trust someone that has had to change their posting
identity after being busted by MS as a fake MVP?

Stalking, even in usenet is a crime, there are enough pages from your
filthy site to prove you're stalking me in your posts, I have them
documented and certified authentic - it's your call now Stalker.

Oh, don't go away yet, W????n S. There are more of them to arrive. :)
Some REAL doozies.
