and the pc, once in a while keeps crashing while playing battlefield

Use the system strenously with something other than Battlefield 1942.
if could just be that one (or a few) games. If the problem is only
during games I'd look for some patches and/or different video card
driver, and see if the video card fan is working, ambient case temps
are ok or if it's overheating... same goes for the CPU.

You wrote "350W PSU", but is it a decent name-brand or some junk like
Raidmax or other generic that comes with a case? Verify that the
power supply fan is working. Has the system been stable up until now,
and for how long has it been working correctly and has anything
changed (or work done inside, PC moved, etc) prior to the onset of the
problem?

Check voltage levels in BIOS heath screen, windows utility, and with a
voltage meter.

hi,

Thnaks for all this good advice. I looked at the motherboard monitor
and it showed that the 12 V + output is at: 12.4 - 5 V . Does this
mean that the 12V + output is being overcharged?

The manufacturer of the PSU is Sunny Technology LTd. and came with a
£30 case.

I'll check other issues later as waiting for an upgraded hdd to 80GB
maxtor 2mb cache ata 133. Should be an improvement over the 66 mhz one
using now!

I had a bad CPU fan that was causing my computer to lock up. The computer
would work for a short time then when the CUP heated up it would freeze.
Just another thing to check.

CPU cooler (vulcan 9) works beautifully, self adjusting speeds
depending on heat emission. Really happy with that cooler.

thanks

Your 12V rail is most likely high because the power supply is
inadequate in it's 3V + 5V rail. To keep 3V/5V high enough it raises
the 12V. Your system is mostly using 3V + 5V power and would be
suffering on those rails... the 12V can be a little high without it
being the problem, only a symptom of the "possible" problem.

I would replace the power supply with a good name-brand 350W-400W
unit, especially since the system is new enough that you could get a
few years out of it (or someone else could when you want to replace
it). However I'm not certain that it's the power supply causing the
problem (crash), you'd need to test other stresses than just the one
game and try other suggestions first.

I would check and see if there is a conflict between your PCI and or
AGP cards. I have just finished building a computer and if would
lockup. I removed one card at a time until I was down to my sound
card and my graphics card (both are PCI) when I removed the sound card
the problem was solved.

hope this helps
