Why no Identity Switching in Outlook?

Outlook Express has a convenient Identity Switching facility to allow easy
access to different email identities. However, Outlook 2000 (SP3) does not.
The only suggestion I have seen to get round this limitation is to create
different Windows User Profiles, but would mean that I would have to logoff
the PC and re-logon as a different user. Not what I call a user friendly way
to manage multiple email addresses for the same person!!

Why has Microsoft not implemented Identity Switching in Outlook? Is there
another solution to my problem? I don't want to use OE because I want to take
advantage of InBoxer (an excellent spam filter plug-in for Outlook).

Multiple emails addresses for the same person shouldn't be a problem its
when you start wanting other people to collect their own mail that it became
a problem especially in Internet Only mode of Outlook, this has been
rectified in post 2000 versions.

Not sure I understand what you mean, Robert. What is the precise distinction
you are making between how Outlook handles multiple mail for one person
versus multiple users? Is it relevant to my original question?

More to the point, you are saying I shouldn't be having a problem handling
multiple mail addresses for one person, when my post says that I DO have such
a problem! I need some guidance on exactly how I can achieve this. Please
note that I want to keep the inboxes, etc, separate for each of my two
'identities'.

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

With Outlook 2000 you had 2 modes, Internet Only mode and
Corporate/Workgroup and most users not connecting to an Exchange server used
the Internet Only mode but this didn't handle multiple users very well which
meant you had to log off the O/S to have separate email accounts for the
other users which is where I thought you were coming from when you mentioned
Identity Switching.

To achieve your aim of having separate Inboxes for each of your mail
accounts then there are a couple of ways you can achieve this, use the Rules
wizard to move mail to different folders or have Outlook setup in
Corporate/Workgroup mode and set up different profiles but you would need to
shut and restart Outlook to switch profiles.
