Why is text in textbox underlined in form?

We created a form in Word 2007 and whenever text is entered into a texbox, it
is underlined. Can we stop that from happening?

Is the form field underlined? Is the form field in a table cell with a
bottom border?

It is a Text Box ActiveX control from the Legacy Tools group. It's not in a
table cell, and I can't find any underlining turned on. If I create a new
one, the properties are identical but the new one does not show underlined
text and the old ones do.

Track Changes is off and there are no comments or tracked changes in the
document. This is a .dotm file and I have turned off all formatting and
editing restrictions. It would be easy to just delete the old text boxes and
add new ones, but it is frustrating to not know why it is doing this!
