Why is Outlook 2003 duplicating email ?

I'm trying to migrate email, data, etc. from Outlook 2003 on one computer to
another (still using Outlook 2003 on the new computer). I've followed
directions, can succesfully see all of the old moved email, calendar dates,
etc., but when my computer does a "send/receive" it wants to download ALL of
the email I've left on the server of my pop3 provider (there are over 2000
messages). This creates MANY duplicate messages in my Inbox since much (if
not most) of that has already been downloaded and transferred when I moved
the .pst file to the new machine.

Why does Outlook on my old computer understand it only needs to download the
newest emails and not re-download old email, whereas on the new computer, it
wants to download EVERYTHING even though those emails are already in the
Inbox? I've tried checking AND un-checking the leave messages on the server
option, I've tried various types of importing files...nothing works. From
what I read on various discussion groups, is my only solution purchasing 3rd
party software to delete the duplicated emails? Thanks for advice on fixing
this exasperating problem.
