Why is network slow?

I'm accessing a computer across my wireless 54g home network. I use a
workgroup. I'm accessing a DVD that has been dumped onto the remote
computer's hard drive. Sometimes the DVD will play fine across the
network then all of the sudden it gets jerking with
pause/start...pause/start activity. Sometimes I can go through an
entire DVD fine. When it starts performing poorly, sometimes I can
stop the DVD movie, restart it and everything is fine.

Is there anything I can do to get consistent quality performance across
the network? Or, what is causing the poor random performance?

It could be interference. Try using a different channel for the wireless.
