Hi
I have an FIC VB-601-V motherboard which i want to eventually use as a
server!

First i´ve had to update my bios to a version which recognises larger
HDD´s. That was successfully completed.

Next i tried to install the new 60gb HDD(maxtor firball 3). that
didn´t work...pri master ..fail

then i tried a 60gb maxtor HDD which can be recognised as 60gb im bios
but in FDISK dos is only recognised as 2040mb!!

how can i successfully get 60gb out of this HDD?

Thanx
Rob

Recheck the drive jumpers, try a different cable, check the
power connector for firm fit.

Use the newest version of FDISK (win98 era) and when it asks
about large disk support (or whatever it asks, I haven't
actually READ it in years), answer "Y".

The other easy way is to boot the HDD manufacturer's drive
setup floppy or CDROM. It'll make partitions, format 'em
too IIRC.

the winme version of fdisk will allow larger disks though, as an aside.

True, when I mentioned newest version I was thinking of the
Win98 patch(ed) FDISK, which is same as WinME FDISK AFAIK.

That also makes it even easier to acquire (not that it's
hard, there are plenty of boot disks out there on the 'net)
as one can also look for the Win98 FDISK patch instead of
having to drag out an OS disc.
