I am asking why you have to re-setup rules, prefrences,
address books/contacts, and everything else other than
your mail.

This is just plain silly that we have to go out and buy a
3rd party software to do a simple backup.

I just re-installed my computer from scratch which
included re-installing outlook, yes I had my saved PST
file which dosent do crap. All it did was give me my
mail, I still had to take a 5-6 step process to make
my "TO:" button work again and also make my address book
work. I then had to re-setup all my rules again from
scratch and had to re-format the way outlook looked
before. Why in the world is this stuff not included in
the PST file?

Perhaps you need to say what version of outlook you are ranting about so we
can help you? Anyways, when creating a .PST file, you need to select all
subfolders, then your stuf will get backed up. You can also get an add-in to
Outlook that creates a automatic .PST file for you that has everything
basically. The ,PST file that I believe you are referringto is the one
created by Outlook and tht is only your email.

Rules must be backed up seperately. You do this by openign the Rules Wiz and
selecting Import/Export rules.
