Why is accessing files on my other computers SLOWING DOWN???

A

Alan Mailer

I have 2 computers on a network, both of which use Windows XP.

About 2 weeks ago I begun to notice that when I attempted to open a
folder using "My Network Places" that it was sometimes taking up to 30
seconds for the folders and/or files in my selected folder to appear
on the screen.

I know this is a very general question, but I simply don't know where
to start: Can somebody give me some idea of what might be slowing
down my networking system? Where would *you* start to look?

Thanks in advance.

Alan, I found this reply to this problem in a newsgroup, but I can not
remember where,lol
It is all to do with windows looking at the pc you are connecting to, to see
if any scheduled task are running.

If you go to regedit (remember to back it up first!), then to:-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace.
Then delete all the keys under this, you will find it will speed up your
browsing.
