Why has my taskbar moved onto 2 rows when quick launch is enabled?

As title states, it is really annoying, I have tried to take all the
shortcuts off the quick launch toolbar, so that the only things on my
taskbar are the start button, and my system tray, but it still moves onto 2
rows when I enable the Quick launch toolbar. I have tried resizing it, but
it won't have it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Right click Taskbar, unlock Taskbar.

Right click blank area on Quick Launch bar, point to view. If Large
Icons is checked, click on Small Icons. Taskbar should revert to single
row. I find the Quick Launch bar invaluable for programs I use a lot,
such as, IE, OE, Windows Explorer, WordPerfect, and Am. Heritage Talking
Dictionary. I don't want Icons on my desktop.

Is your Quick Launch bar stacked on top of your other toolbar (i.e. the one
with running programs)? If so, your taskbar won't want to be one row.

To fix this, drag the Quick Launch bar such that it is on the same row as
the other toolbar. To do this, drag the "grip" on the left side of the Quick
Launch bar (you may need to right-click the clock and uncheck "Lock the
Taskbar")
