Why don't incoming e-mails recognize categories?

When I recieve incoming e-mails, why does Outlook not recognize the category
of the person sending the e-mail? These senders are set up in my directory
and have had a color coded category assigned?

because there is no connect between what is configured on a contact and
incoming mail - outlook does not scan contacts as mail arrives.

If you want, you can create a rule to assign categories to mail that comes
directly to your inbox. If you have other rules which move it from the inbox,
you can edit those rules to add categories too.

But, as Diane has already pointed out, it doesn't just happen automatically.

Actually, I have been frustrated by this very problem, but I think I have
found a way to resolve this. I set up the color catagories as you have done,
but nothing new coming into my inbox got color coded. However, after going
into TOOLS -> RULES & ALERTS, and then clicking on the RUN RULES NOW...
option, all of my new e-mails entering my inbox are now being color coded. I
hope this helps.
